History

In the summer of 1946, a group of Presbyterian Christians met to organize a Vacation Bible School in the Fairlington neighborhood. On February 16, 1947, Fairlington Presbyterian Church was formally established, meeting first in the Centre Theatre on Quaker Lane before moving into the church building on King Street. We are grateful to the Charter Members who, by God’s grace, and their faith and hard work, forged the path for us.

Fairlington Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA). In its history, Fairlington Presbyterian has had a total of 5 full-time pastors and co-pastors:

Rev. Charles C. Cowsert (1947-1958)
Rev. Edward Gammon (1959-1969)
Rev. W. Graham Smith (1970-1987)
Rev. Janice L. Edmiston and Rev. Fred C. Lyon (1989-2001)
