About Christian Disciplemaking

Education in scripture and theology is essential. The Bible is full of many incredible and important stories and lessons.  They are stories that guide our faith and give us an understanding of the character of our God.  The knowledge of the Bible forms a key foundation for our faith development and provides the foundation for our theological understanding of the world and God.  However, simply knowing and understanding scripture and theology is insufficient for us to become disciples in the Way of Jesus.

Spiritual formation including the practices of prayer, peace-making, unconditional love, communion, hospitality, and worship is key to living our faith as followers of Jesus. These practices bring us closer to God and proclaim the identity of our God to the world. However, without the foundation of scripture and theology these practices run astray and without the support of community, these practices are unsustainable. However, spiritual formation alone is insufficient for us to become disciples in the Way of Jesus.

Community provides a continual reminder, support, and context of our call to follow Jesus. It is within community that we discover our gifts and are shepherded into deeper knowledge and relationship with God and His Church. However, simply having community is insufficient for us to become disciples in the Way of Jesus.

Discipleship Cycle

Making disciples requires education, formation, and community.  Fairlington Presbyterian Church is dedicated to making disciples of one another and others.  As such, we seek to invite one another to take part in activities and relationships that, through education, spiritual formation, and community facilitate Christian Disciplemaking.
